Reminder from the Judicial Selection Committee of the Arlington County Bar Association:

Questionnaires and materials are due to Committee Co-Chair, Lamya Moosa, on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.

All candidates will receive a confirmation via email that the Committee Co-Chair has received their materials and questionnaire. If you do not receive an email by Monday, SEPTEMBER 30, 2024 at noon, please reach out directly to Committee Co-Chair, Lamya Moosa, via email at lamya@mwmlegalgroup.com

Interviews will take place on October 7 and October 8 and will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis. Interview timeslots will be sent with the confirmation email, and we ask that you respond promptly in order to accommodate all candidates' schedules. 


The Judicial Selection Committee of the Arlington County Bar Association will be conducting interviews of candidates for the office of GENERAL DISTRICT COURT JUDGE, and the ACBA will thereafter hold a nominating meeting, and an electronic endorsement vote.  

Candidates seeking to participate in the Association’s evaluation and endorsement process must submit to the Judicial Selection Committee for review::

    • a completed questionnaire (download below), 
    • a current resume, 
    • a current criminal background check from the Virginia State Police, and a 
    • significant legal writing sample .
Candidate materials must be submitted in written form or in electronic format (which is strongly preferred) to Lamya Moosa (lamya@mwmlegalgroup.com)

ENDORSEMENT SCHEDULE:

  • Friday, September 27, 2024: Questionnaires & materials are due to Committee Co-Chair Lamya Moosa by 5:00 p.m.  
  • Monday, October 7, 2024 and Tuesday, October 8, 2024: Interviews will be conducted.   
  • October 27, 2024: Reports will be sent to candidates by no later than this date.
  • Monday, November 4, 2024: Nominating Meeting to be held at 4PM. 
  • Tuesday, November 12, 2024 and Wednesday, November 13, 2024: Electronic Voting will take place.* 
*Please note that only CURRENT dues paying members of the ACBA may participate in the voting. 

Candidates should carefully read the procedures set forth in our by-laws which are available below. Questions about the procedures should be directed to the Judicial Selection Committee Co-chairs, Lamya Moosa and Courtney McCarthy.

The preliminary announcement contained an error:  The Committee will  NOT accept confidential written comments on any candidate.
