10 Sep 2024 4:53 PM | Betsey Wildhack (Administrator)

The Honorable R. Frances O’Brien, chief judge of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit for the County of Arlington and the City of Falls Church, has notified the legislative delegation of her retirement effective June 30, 2025.

The Arlington County Bar Association deeply appreciates Judge O’Brien’s dedication and years of service to the Arlington community.

The Judicial Selection Committee of the Arlington County Bar Association will be conducting evaluation interviews of candidates for the office of GENERAL DISTRICT COURT JUDGE, and the full bar will thereafter hold a nominating meeting, and endorsement vote, which will be announced separately.

Candidates seeking to participate in the Association’s evaluation and endorsement process must submit a completed questionnaire, a current resume, and a significant writing sample to the Judicial Selection Committee.

Information regarding submission deadlines, interview schedules and the actual questionnaire will be available on the ACBA website on or before Monday, September 16, 2024.

Candidates should carefully read the procedures. Questions about the procedures should be directed to the Judicial Selection Committee Co-chairs, Lamya Moosa and Courtney McCarthy (contact information below).

Active ACBA members may submit confidential written comments on any candidate to the Judicial Selection Committee Co-Chairs,  as well.

A candidate’s materials may be submitted in written form or in electronic format (which is strongly preferred). Candidates will be advised of the place, date, and time for interviews in early November.
