    The Bar offers its hearty congratulations and thank you to Patty Petroccione on her forthcoming retirement!

    Patty's final day at the Walter T. McCarthy Law Library will be January 18, 2023. There will be an "open house" from noon to 4pm for folks to congratulate her in person with refreshments, to include sandwiches and pizza. 

    Patty's career accomplishments and tenure as Law Librarian include:

    Solo librarian of the Walter T. McCarthy Law Library  for 22 years

    Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for 5 years under Helen Fahey

    Masters in Library and Information Science  J.D.

    Member of the Virginia Association of Law Libraries – served as Treasurer and President

    Member of the American Association of Law Libraries – serve on the Board of the Government Librarians Section

    Member of the Self Represented Litigants’ Committee of the Virginia Commission on Access to Justice

    Patty also organized the annual Golf Tournament for the Walter T. McCarthy Law Library.

    The Bar Association previously announced the passing of Harvey Cohen, the details of his funeral are as follows:

    A Celebration of Life for Harvey B Cohen will be hosted at Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia.  We are looking forward to sharing stories of Harvey’s long journey and many, many accomplishments.  The event will be hosted by Harvey’s wife, Marina Cohen and his four children Teresa, Mark, Douglas and Annastelle.

    **This Notice Supersedes the Prior Notice Sent out by the Bar**

    The Arlington Bar Board of Directors has voted to refer the vacancy created by Judge Lopez's appointment to the Circuit Court to the Judicial Selection Committee. The Board of Directors announces a Nominating Meeting to be held on January 31 at 4pm, in-person and online via Zoom.

    Attorneys interested in seeking appointment as a judge for the General District Court must submit an electronic copy of their completed application (available by clicking here) to ArlingtonCountyBar@Gmail.com by January 17, 2023 at 5pm. Late applications will not be considered. Interviews will be conducted starting the week of the January 17th. 

    Applications must be submitted electronically, and voting by the Membership will also be conducted online, via an emailed ballot, over two business days: January 31 and Feb 1. Only Active Dues-Paid Members will be allowed to participate and vote in the judicial selection process.  If you are uncertain about your dues status, please contact ArlingtonCountyBar@gmail.com immediately with "Dues Inquiry" in your subject line. Only Arlington County Bar Association members that have paid their dues by January 17, 2023 will be eligible to participate in the voting process for this vacancy. 

    Pursuant to the by-laws of the Association, interested applicants must be Nominated by a Member at the Nominating Meeting. Such nominations need not be seconded and will be a graceful 5 minutes.

    The Judicial Nominating Meeting

    As previously announced the Nominating Meeting will be tomorrow, December 22 at 4pm. 

    Please Note that in light of the Courthouse closing early, the location of the in-person meeting has moved to the Arlington County Board Meeting Room, Bozman Government Center, 2100 Clarendon Blvd. Ste. #307, 22201.

    The Meeting will also be available online, via Zoom. If you did not receive the meeting password in the Bar Association email, please contact the Bar directly.

    VIRGINIA WOMEN ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION, NORTHERN VIRGINIA CHAPTERJUDICIAL SCREENING INTERVIEWS FORONE (1) ANTICIPATED ARLINGTON CIRCUIT COURT VACANCY

    The Virginia Women Attorneys Association, Northern Virginia Chapter’s Judicial Screening Committee will conduct interviews of applicants for the anticipated vacancies on the:

    ARLINGTON CIRCUIT COURT

    Interviews of applicants for anticipated vacancies will be conducted virtually on December 20, 2022.

    The Judicial Selection Committee, pursuant to the By-Laws of the Arlington County Bar Association, and by request of the Arlington delegation to the General Assembly, hereby gives Notice of a Nominating Meeting for a judicial vacancy on the Circuit Court of the Seventeenth Judicial District.  Hon. William T. Newman, Presiding Judge has informed the Delegation that he intends to retire on or before July 1st, 2023. The Arlington County Bar Association Judicial Selection Committee intends to hold a nominating meeting on December 22, 2022, at 4pm at the Arlington Courthouse Law Library. The Arlington delegation to the General Assembly expects to conduct their interviews shortly thereafter.

    Interested candidates must submit an electronic copy of their completed questionnaire (available by clicking here) to ArlingtonCountyBar@Gmail.com no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday December 8th, 2022

    In consideration of social distancing due to COVID-19, hybrid accommodations will be made using Zoom. This includes the nominating meeting and the judicial selection committee's screening interviews.
